TOKYO - March 14, 2022 - Internet Initiative Japan Inc. ("IIJ", TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, announced that it has newly added the next-generation antivirus engine of Deep Instinct Ltd. to enhance antivirus function with the IIJ Secure MX Service (Secure MX), a cloud-based integrated email security service. This new antivirus engine that can even detect unknown viruses using deep learning technologies, has been incorporated into the basic functions of Secure MX and is available from today. This is the first email security service in Japan that provides antivirus measures using deep learning technologies.

Secure MX is a cloud-based email security service that provides security functions required for corporate email systems and has been introduced at over 2,000 companies to date, recording the largest domestic share(*) in the cloud-based email security market. Recently, cases of use such as enhancing email security by combining the service with Microsoft 365 are also increasing.

The service prevents dangerous messages from slipping through by implementing multi-layer antivirus/antispam measures using products of multiple security venders as its detection engines. The next-generation antivirus engine of Deep Instinct Ltd. newly introduced this time is an engine with a new detection method that predicts degree of risk of the target utilizing a mathematical model created by quantifying the characteristics of malignant files from enormous data samples amounting to over hundreds of millions using deep learning technologies by means of artificial intelligence. By utilizing deep learning technologies for virus determination, even the risk of unknown viruses can be predicted from the structure, making it possible to find viruses before execution and block them.

By adding the next-generation antivirus engine to the basic functions of Secure MX, the service will be able to respond to a wide range of cyberattacks that are becoming increasingly sophisticated and, in addition to enhanced detection precision, functions for protecting against unknown malware and zero-day attacks that cannot be detected by virus measures using traditional pattern files will be enhanced. As such will be provided as a basic function, customers are able to enhance their email security at no extra cost.

IIJ will continue to work toward developing the Internet into a social infrastructure that everyone can use safely and confidently under the wizSafe security business brand based on the idea of "making safety a matter of course."
