IIJ Launches Integrated Operation Management Service for Zabbix

Provides everything from building Zabbix servers to managed monitoring and operational, maintenance, and technical support

October 1, 2020

TOKYO-October 1, 2020-Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the launch of the IIJ Unified Operation Management (UOM) Service with Managed Monitoring for Zabbix. Part of the IIJ UOM Service lineup-which offers automated monitoring and operational support for various systems from on-premises to multi-cloud platforms-this new managed service employs Zabbix, an integrated, open-source monitoring tool optimized for operation and monitoring large-scale systems.

Through its UOM services, IIJ offers unified monitoring and operational support for its clients' systems, regardless of whether they are located physically on their property, virtually in the cloud, or in a combination of both. These services automatically filter the vast number of alerts generated through system monitoring and operations, register and manage incidents using tickets, and automatically execute operations under predefined rules. By automating the cumbersome system operations of multi-cloud and hybrid cloud systems, UOM services make these operations more efficient and significantly reduce customers' operational burdens.
At the same time, for customers that operate large systems with hundreds or thousands of nodes or multisite systems, the traditional monitoring options have a limited number of monitoring points, making support a challenge. As a result, more and more system administrators are building individual Zabbix servers capable of monitoring large devices. However, using Zabbix requires that administrators build, operate, and tune their own servers, which poses a high implementation hurdle and a heavy operational burden. Thus IIJ is launching its Managed Monitoring for Zabbix as a managed cloud service through which it builds, configures, tunes, and operates Zabbix servers.

Service features are;

A one-stop shop from Zabbix server construction to configuration, operations and support

Through this service, IIJ builds customer-dedicated servers on its cloud platform and offers managed services for tuned and optimized Zabbix servers. They can readily implement asset-less Zabbix servers, as IIJ provides everything needed, from tuning configured monitoring settings, handling operations and maintenance, and offering technical support equivalent to Zabbix Enterprise Gold Support. Moreover, the price structure consists of a fixed monthly fee, regardless of the number of monitored points, so even clients with massive systems can feel at ease about subscribing.

UOM integrated management included as a standard feature

As part of the service's standard features, UOM includes ticket management, automated alerts, and other functions in combination with Zabbix monitoring. The automated processing of the influx of alerts from Zabbix significantly reduces the operational burdens of customers.

Facilitates the provision of secure monitoring networks

UOM services work in combination with the IIJ Private Backbone Service, a dedicated closed network that can interconnect with various IIJ services and cloud platforms. This interconnectivity enables monitoring through secure, closed networks, whether on customer’ on-premise sites or cloud-based systems using IIJ's cloud platforms (IIJ GIO), AWS, Microsoft Azure, or other platforms. The customers can securely monitor and operate their large-scale systems in multi-cloud/hybrid environments.
