TOKYO – June 8, 2026 - Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (TSE Prime: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced that it will begin offering IFMS Cloud, a cloud-based virtual firewall, on July 1 as a new option for its firewall management service for overseas business sites, IIJ Firewall Management Service (IFMS).
IFMS Cloud will provide a firewall as a fully managed cloud service (FWaaS), enabling enhanced security without requiring any changes to on-site hardware configurations. Furthermore, connecting to IIJ's closed network service IIJ Private Backbone Service (PBB) will enable seamless and secure connectivity between overseas and domestic sites. The service will be offered initially for sites in the Asian region and will gradually be expanded to other regions.
With the growing adoption of security models like SSE and SASE (*1) , the use of cloud-based security functions has accelerated. For global corporations, however, firewall management at overseas sites comes with risks and burdens, including the difficulty of obtaining security professionals and setting up a security management framework.
In 2020, IIJ revised the specifications of its widely used IIJ Managed Firewall Service so that it could be deployed at the overseas offices of Japanese enterprises. In the modified service, IFMS, engineers at IIJ Group overseas subsidiaries provide comprehensive support, from firewall hardware setup to system operation and monitoring, maintenance, and recovery. Drawing on years of experience and expertise, IFMS Cloud is being offered as a cloud-based firewall fully managed service.
Security can be enhanced through the use of advanced cloud-based firewall functions, eliminating the need to install firewall hardware at overseas locations or alter the existing network configuration.
By connecting to IIJ's PBB, customers can build an international WAN that securely connects overseas with domestic sites.
All management operations, including initial firewall setup, setting changes, monitoring, and trouble response, are performed by IIJ, eliminating the need for management at overseas sites.
The IIJ Global Support Center in Malaysia will provide fully managed 24/7/365 support, including firewall monitoring and management as well as handling configuration changes and other service requests, in Japanese or English.

IFMS Cloud will be enhanced with additional security capabilities, including CASB, and its availability will be expanded beyond Asia to Europe and the Americas. IIJ remains committed to supporting enterprises with overseas sites through ongoing security management.
