TOKYO – November 25, 2025 - Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (TSE Prime: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced that along with its Japan Travel SIM prepaid SIM cards providing mobile data communication service to visitors to Japan and temporary returnees, Japan Travel SIM/Digital (eSIM) will be made available from Tuesday, November 25 and thereafter from multifunction copiers located in nationwide FamilyMart convenience stores.

Japan Travel SIM/Digital (eSIM) can be used for dedicated data communication service throughout Japan in the NTT Docomo 4G (LTE) and 3G service areas. (*) The lineup consists of seven plans in all, with communication capacities from 3 GB to 55 GB (each usable for up to 30 days). After purchasing a plan at a nearby store, performing an online procedure, and activating the eSIM on their mobile device, customers are immediately able to use data communication.

  • (*)Note that 3G service will no longer be provided after March 31, 2026.

The start of sales at approximately 16,400 FamilyMart stores throughout Japan will increase to around 37,000 the number of shops handling Japan Travel SIM, enabling more customers to purchase communication service readily at various places all over the country.

Flow to start of service

  1. On the FamilyMart multifunction copier, select the desired Japan Travel SIM/Digital (eSIM) plan.
  2. Take the payment slip output by the copier to the point of sale and pay for the service.
  3. The shop clerk will issue a slip indicating the entry code.
  4. Use the entry code to register on the dedicated website, then download and install the eSIM profile.
  • Note: An email address and Wi-Fi or other Internet access are necessary for registering on the website and downloading the eSIM profile.
  • A SIM -free mobile device with eSIM support is necessary. Setup on the mobile device, including entry of the APN (access point name), must be performed separately.

IIJ will continue providing highly convenient services that enable visitors to Japan and temporary returnees to enjoy stress-free use of mobile communication while in the country.
