IIJ Acquires Certification for Eight Cloud and Network Services under ISO/IEC 27017:2015, an International Standard for Cloud Security

TOKYO - April 2, 2024 - Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (TSE Prime: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced its acquisition of ISO/IEC 27017:2015(*) certification on March 25, 2024, recognizing conformance of eight more IIJ cloud- and network-related services to the international standard on information security controls in the provision of cloud services.

This certification is attestation by a third-party organization that the information security controls for the cloud services provided by IIJ are in accordance with the code of practice given in ISO/IEC 27017:2015. The services for which certification has been received this time are the following.

Cloud-related services

IIJ Cloud Data Platform Service

A service that consolidates data flows across the on-premises environment and multiple cloud environments, for simple and secure cloud and data use at low cost.

IIJ Managed Database Service

A cloud-based service providing use of high-performance databases on the customer's own virtual servers, without functional constraints.

IIJ Simple Backup Service

A cloud service providing functions for backing up and restoring data in on-premises or cloud system environments.

Network-related services

IIJ Cloud Exchange Service

A service connecting the customer's on-premises environment and various cloud services in a closed network via an IIJ dedicated private network.

IIJ Directory Service for Microsoft

A service providing Active Directory (AD) functions and Azure Active Directory Connect functions in the cloud.

IIJ Virtual Desktop Service/Citrix Cloud for Azure Virtual Desktop

A service providing Azure Virtual Desktop as a fully managed cloud service.

IIJ Private Backbone Service/Smart HUB

A service providing high-bandwidth connections between the customer's network and various cloud services, with flexible control of bandwidth allocation to each cloud based on the usage status.

IIJ Omnibus Service WAN Unit

WAN Unit, provided in the cloud-based network service (SD-WAN) IIJ Omnibus Service, is a service enabling more flexible WAN configuration, for reducing latency and improving reliability of the corporate network as a whole.

This brings to 25 the number of IIJ cloud services to have acquired ISO/IEC 27017:2015 certification, as 17 other services, including the cloud (IaaS) service IIJ GIO Infrastructure P2 and other operation and management, security, and network-related services, were certified earlier. IIJ pledges to continue providing customers with highly transparent and reliable services.

List of certifications and assessments received for IIJ services

  • (*)ISO/IEC 27017:2015: An international standard giving guidelines for cloud service security controls, issued in 2015 based on guidelines published by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). It includes security controls to be implemented by cloud service providers and users, respectively. The Japanese Government also recommends its use as a basis for determining the reliability of cloud network services.

IIJ will continue to provide safe and secure cloud services conformant with international standards.
