IIJ Expands Its Japan Travel SIM Lineup of Prepaid SIM Cards for Visitors to Japan, Offering 7 Plans from 3 GB to 55 GB | News

Aimed at the diverse needs of the growing number of overseas visitors and others in Japan temporarily

TOKYO - January 17, 2024 - Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (TSE Prime: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced new additions to its lineup of Japan Travel SIM, prepaid SIM cards providing mobile data communication service to visitors to Japan and temporary returnees. Joining the existing 3 GB and 6 GB (30 days) versions are new SIM cards with capacities of 10 GB, 15 GB, 25 GB, 35 GB, and 55 GB (30 days). These will be made available starting from February 6, 2024 at approximately 400 outlets throughout Japan that already handle the existing products, including electronics stores and airport shops.

Japan Travel SIM is sold as a package containing a multi-size three-in-one SIM card (for standard, micro, and nano sizes) with preset data communication capacity. Simply by inserting the SIM card in a SIM lock-free mobile device or Wi-Fi router, performing the necessary setup in the device, and registering an email address, customers are able to enjoy mobile data communication in Japan throughout the nationwide NTT Docomo 4G (LTE) and 3G service areas.

In October 2023, the number of visitor arrivals in Japan exceeded for the first time the number for the same month in 2019, the year prior to the COVID-19 pandemic,(*) as inbound tourism is returning to pre-pandemic levels. The numbers are expected to continue growing. To meet the diverse needs of visitors to Japan from abroad, IIJ will be offering SIM cards with larger capacity than the existing 3 GB and 6 GB (30 days) products, for customers with greater data communication needs while in Japan.
