IIJ and Atmark Techno to Collaborate in IoT/M2M Technology

December 16, 2014

TOKYO-December 16, 2014-Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774) and Atmark Techno, Inc., today announced that they combine Atmark Techno's "Armadillo-IoT", an IoT gateway, with IIJ's "Libarms" open source library, in order to create a framework that uses IIJ's "Service Adaptor Control Manager (SACM)" management system platform to unify multiple sensors.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a concept that has attracted much attention recently. It involves creating new services through analyzing big data collected over the Internet from various sensors. However, the cost and burden required to build frameworks to monitor and manage many devices loaded with sensors is becoming a significant issue in implementing IoT systems.

Based on the IIJ's patented technology, SACM is a management system platform that provides a framework to centrally manage remote communication devices. Libarms is an embedded software module that was developed for installation of SACM management functions in devices. It is freely distributed as an open source library. Embedding Libarms into devices to be managed allows SACM to automatically connect to devices for comprehensive control. Customers can use SACM management to centrally and simply manage devices using a dedicated Web interface, including remote monitoring and administration of Armadillo-IoT, collection of information on devices such as connecting sensors or controllers, and management/analysis of devices—all without having to develop their own management systems.

Atmark Techno's Armadillo-IoT is a Linux-based IoT gateway that connects over the Internet to devices and equipment that are loaded with sensors. The technology allows users to add functionality using add-on modules, and is compatible with the latest low-energy wireless standards, such as Wi-SUN, EnOcean, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

IIJ and Atmark Techno will continue to offer highly flexible IoT/M2M solutions to their customers.
