IIJ Launches Data Warehouse Services for High-speed Big Data Analysis in the Cloud Computing

IIJ adds DWH services to the IIJ GIO Component Service Database Add-on

TOKYO-June 16, 2014-Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774) , one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced that it will add two Data Warehouse(DWH) services (*1), Pivotal Greenplum Database and InfiniDB, to lineup of the IIJ GIO Component Service Database Add-on, which provides a high-performance database system over a cloud computing service. IIJ will begin offering the services from July 1, 2014

IIJ is expanding comprehensive solutions related to big data, aiming to offer technological elements and system platform on a cloud computing service, necessary for corporations to make the best use of big data. IIJ currently offers IIJ GIO Hadoop Solution (announced in October 2012), which allows for the use of a distributed parallel processing environment, and IIJ GIO BigData Labo (announced in June 2013), which provides a trial environment and technical support for verifying the effects. DWH services, Pivotal Greenplum Database and InfiniDB provide for the storage and analysis of large quantities of data as the third lineup of IIJ GIO Service for big data usage.

DWH services highlight:

High-speed DWH with no assets or tuning required

The service offers pre-tuned DWH servers, software licenses, and server monitoring/operation for a single monthly fee. Customers can begin using a sophisticated DWH services with reducing a burden of operations, an advanced configuration and tunings such as setting parameter to maximize its performance. The DWH services are offered in the cloud and allow customers to start small and expand flexibly without any IT assets required on their end.

Two types of database to meet customers' needs

InfiniDB is an economical entry-level solution starting from one unit (a single node), while Pivotal Greenplum Database is ideal for highly available and sophisticated traditional BI/data aggregation applications.

Dedicated servers and storage provide high quality DWH system

Server/storage environments are physically independent and offer stable performance unaffected by other customers. Data are safely stored in dedicated servers and storage to keep security level high.

Customers can take advantage of IIJ's considerable experience in migrating initial data, linking data with their existing systems (ETL (*2)), and configuring BI tools (*3).

Trial environments are also available and can be used for approximately one month. Monthly fees start at JPY 98,000 per node for InfiniDB and JPY 562,000 for two nodes for Pivotal GreenplumDB.

IIJ will continue to implement environments that allow corporations to utilize big data.

  • (*2) ETL: Extract/Transform/Load: Functions that support reading, converting, and writing data to a DWH.
  • (*3) BI tool: Business Intelligence: Functions and tools that support analyzing data and making decisions.
