Service Specifications
The IIJ Secure MX Service consists of a Basic Service providing indispensable corporate security functions such as anti-spam and anti-virus, and advanced optional services as necessary (mail archiving and other options).
- * The IIJ Secure MX Service is also available to customers not using an IIJ Internet connection service.
- * Backed by a wealth of experience and successful project implementations, IIJ can meet a wide variety of corporate needs, from tens of accounts to several tens of thousands of accounts.
- * The IIJ Secure MX Service can be easily implemented by re-orienting your MX record, and can be used for specific domains/ subdomains alone.
Basic Service
Spam Mail Filter
Main Features
- Utilizes the McAfee (U.S.) filtering engine, which is widely used both in Japan and overseas. (*1)
- High-precision filtering using several engines for multifaceted spam mail detection.
- Features a spam mail quarantine area for each end user, and allows settings to be changed to either "quarantine" or "attach tag" for each user.
- (*1) McAfee, Inc. received the highest award from CRNTech, whose experts evaluate new technology, in April 2008, receiving top marks for accuracy, features, and ease-of-use. (*2) Received third-party organization VeriTest's highest rating in comparison to products of other companies.
Filter System
Each user can select the behavior when spam email is received
- Send through to customer mail server
- Attach tag to header ("SPAM"), and send through

Sender Authentication
Supports sender authentication (SPF/DKIM). This makes it possible to confirm that the sender of an email is legitimate, and that the email itself has not been tampered with, as well as providing security features essential for Internet email in this day and age, such as phishing countermeasures.
Anti-Virus
Blocks virus intrusions via email. IIJ takes responsibility for all time-consuming anti-virus software maintenance, such as license management and upgrades.
Temporary Hold
Outgoing email is held temporarily, allowing the sender to reconfirm whether or not there are any mistakes in the recipient's address. Possible settings include immediately sending an email after confirmation, cancelling transmission, and automatic processing after an email has been held for a certain period of time (send/discard). This prevents mistakenly addressed emails due to careless mistakes.
Attachment Encryption
Automatically encrypts any attachment sent via email. It is also possible to automatically send the password for decrypting the attachment after an email is sent (including setting the time-lapse before password notification, and cancellation within a certain period of time). This prevents information leaks when an email is sent to the wrong address.
Route Encryption
Encrypts communications over the Internet between mail servers, ensuring privacy for incoming/ outgoing email. Provides stronger security to meet customer needs without users having to make any settings.
Mail Suspension
When the customer's email system is stopped due to maintenance or trouble, incoming email is temporarily stored at IIJ until the system is restored to proper order.
Sender Authentication
Supports sender authentication (SPF/DKIM). This makes it possible to confirm that the sender of an email is legitimate, and that the email itself has not been tampered with, as well as providing security features essential for Internet email in this day and age, such as phishing countermeasures.
Email Log Downloads
IIJ can archive email records (logs) and other statistical information on behalf of our customers. Customers can download this information through an online interface for system administrators.

Mail Archiving (Storage)
Main Features
- Easily introduces the "Email Storage" function, an important part of internal controls and compliance.
- Contract for only the necessary volume based on your email traffic; no need to purchase large amounts of storage space, generating a superior investment effect.
- Uses anti-virus and spam filtering together to conserve space, and avoid storing unneeded email.
Functions Offered
- Full-text storage of every email passing through the gateway using IIJ's highly reliable storage with redundancy.
- Select: sent emails only, received emails only, or all emails
- Search emails archived on the storage through a dedicated support website interface
- Perform refined searches, browse, download, delete, or any number of other operations
- Only an administrator can perform these operations, and all communications are encrypted
- If a PC hard drive fails or other accident occurs, IIJ can provide support for a method to recover the user's lost emails (incoming/ outgoing)
- IIJ also offers a delivery service via external media
Mail Auditing
Suspends email communications that include certain predefined keywords ("internal use only," etc.), preventing information from being leaked outside the organization. File attachments may also be audited.
Link to Online Storage (DOX)
File attachments can be automatically moved to online storage, generating an automated email message indicating the URL for downloading the file. This reduces the risk of information leaking outside the organization due to mistakenly addressed emails, as well as reducing server load and capacity.
Mailbox
Main Features
- Completes outsourcing of email system, including mail spool.
- When operating multiple domains, the MTA for specific domains may be transitioned to this mailbox option.
- By concentrating domains hosted with other companies in Secure MX, customers can unify security policies, and perform integrated email management.
- In addition to SMTP and POP over SSL mail encryption, IIJ also offers functions that restrict communications according to the IP address of the connecting device, and gives customers the ability to set email forwarding permissions on a user-by-user basis, reducing the risk of information leaks.

SMTP Authentication
Outgoing email is subject to authentication to prevent the retransmission of spam (high volumes of unsolicited email). Outgoing mail is only released after authentication is confirmed.
- * Only SMTP-compatible email software can be used (*1).
POP/SMTP over SSL
- SSL encrypted (*2) communications for incoming/ outgoing email.
- Enjoy enhanced confidentiality through user ID, password, and email body text encryption on communication route when sending/ receiving email.
- (*2) SSL (Secure Socket Layer): Security feature to ensure safe communication by encrypting data between the browser/ mail software and the server.
Mailing List (*3)
A mailing list function that makes it possible to register members both inside and outside the company. It features rich management functions, such as adding the mailing list name to the subject line, adding sequential numbers, and restricting internal/ external posting and posting size. Additionally, this feature can support the enforcement of IT regulations with the mailing list address archive and auditing.
- (*3) In order to use this option, the mailbox option is also required.
- (*3) This option cannot be used for the purpose of large-scale distribution.

AntiVirus Plus
For customers who want stronger security against the threat of viruses. A standard antivirus (Sophos) function, plus a redundant check provided by the Trend Micro antivirus scan engine. Enables a faster response to new viruses. IIJ will of course take care of all time-consuming anti-virus software maintenance, such as license management and upgrades
Mailing List (*3)
A mailing list function that makes it possible to register members both inside and outside the company. It features rich management functions, such as adding the mailing list name to the subject line, adding sequential numbers, and restricting internal/ external posting and posting size. Additionally, this feature can support the enforcement of IT regulations with the mailing list address archive and auditing.

GDX Mail
By constructing a GDX Trusted Platform network with high reliability for more secure email delivery, and encrypting email transmission routes and files, issues with previous email communications such as deliverability guarantees, verification of time authentication and tamper-proofing, and confirmation of recipient delivery status can all be solved in a single stroke.
Account Management API
Enables the automation of account management operations necessary for using this service through use of a management API.

Basic Service
Subject to separate estimate. IIJ will provide an estimate based on the number of accounts, etc. Please contact the IIJ Sales Division.
- * Minimum service usage period is one (1) month.
Optional Services
"Mailbox", "Mailing List", "Mail Archiving", "Mail Auditing", and "AntiVirus Plus" , and "GDX Mail" services are subject to separate estimates. IIJ will provide an estimate based on email traffic and account volume. Please contact the IIJ Sales Division.
- "Mail Archiving" consists of two separate items: 1) Disk storage only, and 2) Disk storage + tape backup (delivered to customer).Disk storage charges vary according to the storage period and amount desired.
- Customers may contract for the Basic Service first, and then add Optional Services later.
- * Minimum contract period for "Mail Archiving" service is one (1) year. Minimum contract period for "Mail Auditing" service is one (1) month.
- * Usage of the "Link to Online Storage (DOX) " service requires IIJ Document Exchange Service Contract (fee applies).
