IIJ Supports "ExpressRoute for Office 365" in its "IIJ Cloud Exchange Service for Microsoft Azure"

To launch "Office 365 Connection Option" on December 21

December 16, 2015

TOKYO-December 16, 2015-Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced that its "IIJ Cloud Exchange Service for Microsoft Azure" will support "ExpressRoute for Office 365"(*1), which is provided by Microsoft Japan Co., Ltd. (Microsoft Japan). IIJ will begin offering the "Office 365 Connection Option" on December 21, 2015.

"IIJ Cloud Exchange Service for Microsoft Azure" enables customers to access the Microsoft Azure private network connection service "ExpressRoute" via dedicated private networks built for each customer on IIJ's backbone network. By using the "Office 365 Connection Option," customers can access Office 365 services via an ExpressRoute connection-without connecting via the Internet-providing a more secure, lower latency, and stable transmissions environment for the use of business applications.

In addition to support for "ExpressRoute for Office 365," the service's gateway is adding NAT(*2) functionality, thus providing the NAT features required for using Microsoft Peering and Azure Public Peering as a service. Consequently, customers no longer require NAT gateway appliances in their on-premises network environments. By combining this service with IIJ's cloud-based email security service "IIJ Secure MX Service for Office 365," customers can strengthen the security of their email systems.

Service Overview

Service Fees

IIJ will provide estimates based on the numbers of Office 365 user licenses, as well as based on the number of access sessions with the Office 365 environment.
Starting on December 21, the service will support connections with Microsoft Azure's West Japan-region ExpressRoute. This will enable customers to access Microsoft Azure's West Japan region directly via private networks, also supporting redundant disaster recovery (DR) configurations set up between East Japan and West Japan.

Promotion

The period for applications for IIJ's well-received "IIJ Cloud Exchange Service 10Mbps Small Start Campaign" has been extended to March 31, 2016. The "Office 365 Connection Option" is also part of the promotion, supporting customers interested in trial or early-adopter deployments.

  • (*1)ExpressRoute for Office 365: A service that accesses Office 365 via the public cloud service "Microsoft Azure" private network connection service "ExpressRoute." Using a single network, both Microsoft Azure and Office 365 can be accessed in a closed domain.
  • (*2)Network Address Translation (NAT): A technology for converting network addresses. It converts private IP addresses allocated by a company intranet and global IP addresses in both directions, enabling access to Office 365.

IIJ will continue to provide cloud environments to its customers that offer both security and convenience.
