IIJ Opens the Moriyama Data Center

February 28, 2013

TOKYO -February 28, 2013- Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced that IIJ's new Moriyama Data Center in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture will be operational on March 1, 2013. The Moriyama Data Center is the second in the Tokai Region, after the Nagoya Data Center, and the 20th for IIJ in Japan.

Located in Moriyama Ward in northeastern Nagoya (location unspecified for security purposes), the Moriyama Data Center was built to meet the demand for suburban data centers, as a growing number of businesses seek to relocate their corporate information systems away from central urban areas as part of BCP and disaster preparedness plans after the Great East Japan Earthquake.

The Moriyama Data Center has the following features:

Earthquake resistant structure and extra emergency power support

The buildings at this data center use seismic technology to make them earthquake resistant and have many more times the usual 24 to 72 hours of emergency power capacity of other data centers, providing up to 120 hours of power generation and making them ideal for use as a disaster recovery site. In addition, because each rack is capable of providing up to 6kVA of effective power, this data center has double the density of traditional data centers.

Improved connectivity with IIJ's cloud service

Clients that lease rack space here can connect to the IIJ GIO cloud service through an on-site gateway and thus more easily expand their systems using the cloud service.

Partial-rack-space options

To be able to work with a variety of hybrid approach using both on-premises and cloud services, such as housing special devices for connecting the client's cloud-based equipment with internal corporate systems, we have added a 1/8 rack option to the conventional 1-rack and 1/4-rack options. These partial-rack options are also great for smaller networks and provide access to cloud services for a minimal cost.

Since December 2012, IIJ has been working with Gifu Prefecture by providing IIJ GIO Cloud service to venture businesses developing smartphone apps in the Softopia Japan area, Gifu's IT hub. This is IIJ's contribution to creating a new business model with prefecture collaboration in providing cloud services. IIJ will continue to contribute to the development of the information society in the Tokai Region.
