TOKYO May 31, 2010 Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the June 1 launch of the new SSL Inspect Option on the IIJ Secure Web Gateway Service, which provides integrated Web access security functions.

Communications that use the HTTPS protocol are encrypted using SSL between the browser and the website to provide secure communications for personal information, credit card numbers, and corporate proprietary information. However, sensitive information can be leaked outside the company through Web mail and bulletin board services (BBS), viruses and worms can be transmitted through HTTPS sites used for phishing, and complete access logs cannot be created.

With this new SSL Inspect Option, connections to HTTPS sites first go through the Gateway server situated in the IIJ Data Center, which inspects the encrypted transmission (SSL) that could be used to subvert information security measures. Communication with the HTTPS site's Web server all pass through the Secure Web Gateway, which enables proper logging of the transmission and inspection of the HTTPS site at the URL level, so that consideration can also be paid to the user's privacy.

IIJ will continue to expand the functions of the IIJ Secure Web Gateway Service to provide the most up-to-date security measures and thus create a care-free, secure Internet environment.
