TOKYO--January 26, 2010--Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ:IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the introduction of DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) sender authentication technology to its enterprise-class mail hosting service, IIJ Post Office Service, which enables customers to attach a DKIM digital signature to their outgoing e-mail as well as to authenticate incoming e-mail using the sender authentication filter.
DKIM is one method of effectively authenticating the sender of the e-mail as a measure against spam with spoofed sender addresses. It enables the detection of valid e-mail through a digital signature appended to outgoing e-mails by the originating server, which can then be checked on the receiving end. With the IIJ Post Office Service, customers can attach a DKIM digital signature to all outgoing e-mail without the cost or effort to modify the corporate mail server. This prevents spoofing or alteration of messages or headers and preserves the integrity of the customer's domain. The customer can also verify the authenticity of incoming mail as well, using the sender authentication technology (SPF,DKIM), the results of which can be inserted into the mail header. This authentication result information is used to implement the two following filtering features.
IIJ introduced sender domain authentication technology to its corporate mail environment in 2005, and thereafter has been steadily implementing this service on its enterprise-class mail outsourcing services, such as IIJ Secure MX Service and Mass Mail Distribution Service, promoting the adoption of sender domain authentication technology. This implementation on the IIJ Post Office Service completes DKIM compatibility for IIJ's major mail services.
IIJ will continue to provide the most advanced features using the latest technology to create a network environment for secure network messaging.
