IIJ GIO used to build website that can handle spikes in traffic volume
January 19, 2010
TOKYO--January 19, 2010--Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced that it built the infrastructure for a new government website using IIJ's cloud computing service IIJ GIO.
The new website "Hatomimi.com (voice of people)" was released on January 18. It provides a channel for comments and suggestions regarding government services from the people who use them. The site invites suggestions for eradicating government waste and changing unnecessary rules, and is one of the tools announced on November 30, 2009, for returning to a truly transparent, fair, and efficient government.
The deadline for building this infrastructure was very short: there were only three weeks from contractor selection to the initial release of the website, and because they expect very high traffic volumes, IIJ decided to use IIJ GIO, a cloud service that can be quickly implemented and easily expanded to meet unexpected high traffic volumes.
IIJ GIO leverages IIJ's expertise acquired through many years of network service management, and provides a cloud environment with a high level of security and availability that can serve as business infrastructure for corporations and government institutions. Rather than building their own networks, companies can take full advantage of low-cost cloud computing and a system environment with a high level of service.
This is the first time for a government agency to use IIJ GIO. Since the site was released on January 18, it has been running smoothly.
IIJ will continue to use IIJ GIO to provide our customers with the best network infrastructure to meet their needs.
