Net Care Launches Earthquake Early Warning Support Package

December 10, 2007

TOKYO—December 10, 2007--Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, and Net Care, Inc., the IIJ Group contact center and network operation outsourcing company, today announced the February 1, 2008, release of the Earthquake Early Warning Support Package ("EqCare").

The EqCare package is a solution that includes the following services.

  • IIJ Earthquake Early Warning Distribution Service
This service receives Earthquake warnings from the Japan Meteorological Agency and forwards them to customers over the Internet.
  • IIJ Fiber Access/F Service
This service provides Internet connectivity, including router rental.
  • Earthquake Early Warning Analysis System
This service provides a computer that has Fujitsu FIP Corporation's AlertStation EQ installed.
  • Earthquake Early Warning Display Terminal
This service provides a Patlite Corporation, FTE-D04 display terminal.

The EqCare service provides customers with an Internet connection and router that serves as an independent hotline that exists alongside the existing network. Customers also receive a dedicated computer terminal that contains a pre-configured Early Earthquake Warning Analysis System, and by assembling the system, the customer can start using the Early Earthquake Warnings immediately. When using the special display device, the expected strength and arrival time of the shock is displayed along with the activation of a warning buzzer, and a countdown display, notifying the customer of impending danger. This system can also be connected to the company PA system to notify employees of the broadcast, giving them time to prepare for the jolt, or to shut down running machinery in the factory or warehouse.

The IIJ Group will continue to develop network services to meet the needs of our customers.
