IIJ Adds VPN Option to its Firewall Service

February 06, 2001

Tokyo and New York, February 6, 2001 - Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI), Japan's leading Internet-access and comprehensive Internet solutions provider, today announced that it now provides a virtual private network (VPN) option to its firewall management service, "IIJ Security Standard" for secure site-to-site and remote access connections. This service offering commenced today and will be offered primarily to Japanese corporate customers.

To ensure a highly reliable VPN environment, IIJ will manage and oversee every aspect involved within the VPN service, from the initial application, to the everyday operation, monitoring, and reporting of unauthorized access to the customer network. Building upon its extensive experience in customizing VPN solutions for large customers of its systems integration services, this new VPN option was developed for the middle range corporate customer whose business requires remote access connectivity via the Internet as well as in-house server protection by firewalls.

"We believe the addition of the VPN option will prove essential for our corporate customers that are seeking totally managed security systems to extend their network reach in a cost effective manner." said Koichi Suzuki, the President of CEO of IIJ. "By combining this new VPN option with the IIJ Security Standard, which has a strong performance record in secure firewall management, we further enhance our value added services for our security solutions lineup under our total solutions approach."
