TOKYO, February 1, 2000 - Internet Initiative Japan Inc. ("IIJ", NASDAQ: IIJI) today announced that applications for the new JP domain administration service will be opened on February 22, 2001.

The new service will handle registration applications for the new domain name systems, which will enable users to have domain names with Japanese-letter in shorter format ([name].JP). IIJ is currently advancing its preparations as an authorized register of the new JP domain name systems.

The starting date for actual use of the new domain names reserved through the service will be determined by JPNIC, but is expected to be after April 2001.

IIJ will continue to work to open up the potential of the Internet, provide an optimal network environment to the widest possible range of users, and improve the quality and increase the popularity of the Net.

General-Purpose JP-Type Domain Administration Service charges (per domain name)

• (*) Registration application costs will, however, have to be paid for domain name registration applications received during the prior application period.
